William O. King

Retired Attorney


William O. King is a former Walker Lambe member, who retired from practicing law in July 2018. Bill is a past President of the North Carolina Bar, a former President of the North Carolina Trial Lawyers Association, a graduate of the University of North Carolina, and a graduate of Wake Forest University School of Law. After college, he worked as a reporter for the Sports section of the Durham Herald-Sun. He served 33 years in the North Carolina National Guard, retiring with the rank of Colonel and was State Judge Advocate for 3 years. His experience also includes serving as a Visiting Professor of Law at Campbell University for ten years, providing instruction in the areas of Trial Practice, Ethics and Law Practice Management.

In his career, Bill has received many accolades for his achievement as an Attorney at Law. He has been listed in Best Lawyers in America and North Carolina’s Super Lawyers list for over 30 years. He was the recipient of the NC Chief Justice’s “Professionalism” Award, the NCSB John McMillan Distinguished Service Award, and was honored by Lawyers Weekly with “leaders in the law” recognition. Most recently, Bill was selected as an inaugural member of North Carolina Lawyers Weekly Hall of Fame, Class of 2018.

In his free time, he is a member of St. Stephen’s Episcopal Church in Durham (5 times Senior Warden).
