Shirley M. Diefenbach
Bio
Shirley M. Diefenbach is a principal member of the law firm and the managing partner of the firm’s trust and estate administration department. Shirley began her law practice in New York, where she was an associate of a nationally recognized Elder Law and Estate Planning law firm. Through her years of practice, she has had the opportunity to help hundreds of families with their estate planning and trust and estate administration needs.
Shirley earned her undergraduate degree from the University of Maryland, and her law degree from the Benjamin N. Cardozo School of Law in New York City. While in law school, Shirley was the Internet Editor of the Arts & Entertainment Law Journal and a member of the Tax Clinic. In that capacity, she represented low-income taxpayers in audits, administrative appeals, offers in compromise, and other tax collection matters.
Shirley is admitted to practice law in New York and North Carolina and is a certified mediator by the North Carolina Dispute Resolution Commission. She is also accredited by the Department of Veteran’s Affairs to represent clients before the Agency.
Shirley is a board member of the Elder & Special Needs Section of the North Carolina Bar Association, board member of the North Carolina chapter of the National Academy of Elder Law Attorneys (NAELA) and a member of the Durham Orange Estate Planning Council. Shirley also serves on the Investment Committee of the Jewish Federation of Durham Chapel Hill. Shirley also serves on the Board of a variety of non-profit charitable organizations.
